Awa was born in Tingréla, a town in northern Côte d'Ivoire. Coming from a very strict Muslim family, she has never been to school because she was told "a woman must take care of her husband and children". She often envied her friends who had the chance to go to school and imagined herself becoming a primary school teacher. When her parents divorce, Awa goes through difficult times. She has nowhere to live. The man who then helps her, becomes her husband and that's how she follows him to Brihiri. Now Awa is growing a little rice to support herself.
With her 5 children growing up, Awa knows she needs to increase her sales. She wants to extend her rice field ½ ha further and asks for the help of the supporters to carry out her project.
Life has often been unfair with Awa, but she continues to struggle to provide a brighter future for her children. She hopes to be more independent through her future profits and even to start soaps trading.
